Introduction to SuperFoods

They don't wear capes but they're not hard to spot.

What makes a super food super? Super foods are foods that are packed with powerful nutrients. From heart-healthy fats to damage repairing antioxidants to cleansing fiber the nutrients in these foods keep your body running strong and looking good. They can clear your arteries, protect you from cancer and even make you look younger... and unlike drugs, there are no side affects or fine print.

How do you spot a super food? They are generally rich in color whether it's a bright red strawberry or a deep dark piece of chocolate there is nothing pale about them. Generally the whiter the fruit the less nutritious it is. The same rule applies to grains, generally, the paler they are the more refined they are. The more a grain is refined the greater the loss of nutrients. When it comes to fat, those from plants sources are packed with Omega 3's but don't discount all animal sources, fish are also loaded with the same healthy fats. Again, color is a key identifier. Green Avocados, rich colored olives, nuts (like walnuts and almonds) and flax seeds along with the pink color of salmon and trout are all great sources of healthy fat.

If you incorporate an array of (natural) colors in each meal you are sure to get a powerful blast of nutrients.
